Sunday 5:30–6:20 Red Stage

Lebanese composer, vocalist, and oud (Arabic lute) enthusiast Marcel Khalife has been performing across the globe since the early 1970s. While music started to become a profession for Khalife, traveling across the world to showcase his solo oud performances, he also taught at the National Academy of Music in Beirut until 1975. Khalife, who has more than two dozen releases under his belt, is also widely regarded for his humanitarian pursuits. In 1999, he was granted the Palestine Award for Music, contributing the financial portion of the award to the National Conservatory of Music at Birzeit University in Palestine, and Khalife was named UNESCO Artist for Peace in 2005.

In 2011, Khalife began a new familial collaboration with his sons, Rami and Bachar, which showcases a fusion of oriental, electronic, classical and percussive music composed by the trio. The father-son trio presents a high-energy intermingling of the oud, piano and percussion, electronic synthesizers and korg keyboards.
